What will win Best picture at academy awards this

yeh, amelie probably will win the foreign language award, but i don't think that's compensation enough for not even getting a nom for best pic... the thing is that although the oscars are a way for film-makers to get respect from the academy, it's also a way of getting publicity for small films (see life is beautiful doing well after benigni won the oscar)... if amelie won best picture, it woulda been HUGE publicity and the wider public would have the chance to see a film... however, winning the foreign language award doesn't really do as much, publicity wise.

Memento should win. That was definately the best movie last year hands down. My runner ups were Black Hawk Down and The Royal Tennenbaums. I think A Beautiful Mind will win though because it's that kind of movie.

Bitch bitch bitch. I'm gonna go with u_a's original statement: all the threads about "What's the best movie and why?" are the dumbest thing I've ever read. Of course every single one of us has a different idea. And it gets no where. And anything worth talking about gets lost in the mix. When I came to this board, very very recently, I asked questions about filmmaking and I got them answered. Now, a very short time later, it's just "Why is George Lucas good? Discuss."

Booooring. I hardly even stop by now because I know it's just more crap.

The oscars are a good way of getting publicity for small films. Its deffinately not what the Oscars are for, though, and I think its quite rare for a small film to stand out among the hype of the bigger pictures.


I don't think a foreign language film such as Amelie could be entered as best picture. Thats what the foreign language Oscar is for.

Jesus man this a web page for filmakers. So what if we talk about things that arn't filmaking questions! I just find it kind of nice that i can go someplace and discuss things that i have an interest in with other people who are interested as well. And if I have a filmaking question i can ask that too. So why the big deal about only having questions about filmaking? If you don't like them don't reply to them and they won't go anywhere. I think this thread is an example. If you hadn't of been so worried about what kind of question it was then this thread wouldn't have become one of the longest threads i've ever seen. So my point is, just chill guys.
